Created and experimented by Stéphanie Claude, primary school teacher (French team)
Implemented by Bogusława Bogusz, preschool teacher (Polish team).
The pupils have an important task to complete ; they
must clean and save the planet. If they succeed, they will receive a
significant reward.
To save the planet, they must put off all the objects that are on
it. Each object needs to be removed by doing an eco friendly action or
activity…
Examples of eco-friendly actions :
· build hedgehog shelter, birdhouses,
insect hotels…
· list the animals that live around
the school, make an identity card for each of them.
· produce a poster or video that
explains how to save energy at school and at home.
· rank the means of transport from
the one that pollutes the least to the one that pollutes the most. Share this
information with families.
· plan a car-free day
· think together about what we can
do with the clothes and objects that we no longer use..
· install a rainwater collector and
use it to water the plants.
· set up a vegetable garden and use
the harvest as a snack.
· sow and plant flowers to attract
pollinating insects.
· clean nature around the school.
· set up compost in the garden and
put all the green waste from the school there.
·
…
Examples of rewards :
- A big reward when the planet is clean (for instance a little trip with picnic in the forest, with all school partners)
- Little rewards every 10 points (going to the play area, preparing a fruit salad, organising an obstacle course outside, watching a film about nature, organizing a party…)
In
France, all school partners have been involved in the project (teachers, families,
municipality, after-school center…). It has been in place for a year and will
be repeated each year with new missions to be carried out.
In
Poland, Bogusława Bogusz is in the process of implementing this project and
adapting it for 3 years old children. She’s implementing the project from
general to specific. She started with the concept of the planet and showing its
needs. Children listened to the content of the "letter from the
Earth" and learned about its problems.
The
first topic was keeping clean and solving the garbage problem. They determined
the order of their actions to help her. During their walks, the children
observed the surroundings of the preschool. The teacher drew their attention to
cleanliness and its effects on our health. To this end they played research
games ("escape from germs"); they participated in the "Clean up
the world" action - by collecting and sorting trash together. In the classroom they placed waste
segregation garbage cans, which they use every day. Every day children take
care of the cleanliness of the classroom and clean up after playing.
When
the children have mastered this skill they stick a heart on the achievement
board as a symbol of a friend of the earth.
During
organized and occasional situations, the teacher have awakened sensitivity
towards nature and animals. She has established a nature corner where pupils
collect specimens of nature, grow plants and observe their growth. The repertoire in the nature corner was
related to the current season of the year. Pupils created artistic and
technical works using available recyclable materials (paper tubes, plastic caps…).
